Operational update on the situation in the Pokrovsk agglomeration as of 17 October
In the defensive sector of the 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the most difficult situation remains south of Pokrovsk. Taking advantage of its numerical superiority in manpower and equipment, the enemy is trying to turn the settlement of Zvirove into a “grey zone.” Currently, the occupiers do not have full control of this area – our units are present there and continue to repel enemy attacks.

The sector from Zvirove to Pokrovsk is strategically important for the enemy in its attempt to occupy the city. Full control over this area would allow them to advance along several directions, gradually encircling Pokrovsk.
There have been cases of enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups infiltrating Pokrovsk. However, Ukrainian troops are detecting and eliminating the enemy within the city. Unfortunately, there have been recorded violations of international humanitarian law by the russians, who have resorted to shooting civilians in Pokrovsk.
Yesterday, the occupiers tried to exploit worsening weather conditions to infiltrate Novopavlivka, southeast of Pokrovsk. Enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups were destroyed, and the settlement was cleared. The situation remains under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Despite the difficult conditions, Pokrovsk’s defenders continue to hold back the enemy and make every effort to stabilize the situation. Units within the 7th Rapid Response Corps area of responsibility operate effectively within the available resources and with the priority of preserving the lives of our soldiers.
Since the beginning of October, Pokrovsk’s defenders have eliminated nearly 600 occupiers, with more than 300 wounded. The Defense Forces have shot down or disabled over 1,750 enemy strike drones of various types, destroyed 74 reconnaissance and strike wing-type UAVs, and neutralized or damaged 11 enemy drone launch sites.
Several weeks ago, in the defensive sector of the 7th Rapid Response Corps, an operation began to counter enemy drones attempting to reach our rear logistics routes. Due to the operation’s success, the enemy significantly increased the number of KAB strikes targeting our logistics using tactical aviation, which remains out of range for tactical-level air defense systems. Since the beginning of the month, the occupiers have carried out 121 airstrikes, the highest number on 12 October – 19 airstrikes, most of them in the area of Hryshyne.
During each strike, russian aircraft typically drop four guided aerial bombs, each weighing 250 kilograms. The concentration of enemy air efforts on the Pokrovsk axis has been achieved by reducing the number of strikes in other parts of the front.
