Range and Reliability: 7th Air Assault Corps Deploys Its Own Cellular Network

The 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Air Assault Forces is already actively testing the technology along the line of contact. Its troops are using their own autonomous LTE networks, which are not connected to commercial networks.

Deploying and connecting a communications station takes up to 30 minutes, meaning the technology can only be used if the enemy has not detected the troops’ location.

The system works as follows: a base station is connected to an antenna (cell tower), while the drone is equipped with an LTE antenna that connects to the cell tower via a modem. The system is non-standard, so its components are assembled in workshops near the line of contact.

The antenna operates on specific frequency bands. The technology was designed from the outset to transmit digital data, so unlike radio, information is transmitted in packets, similar to the Internet. At the same time, an entire range of frequencies is used, providing the technology with speed, capacity, and resistance to interference.
